Meet our new addition to the Farm, KISSES. As you can see by these pictures, Kisses has suffered severe neglect for way too long. We picked her up Friday, June 12 from the Ramona Humane Society, the only information I have is that she was picked up by animal control and was listed as a stray. She is an Arabian who they say is 20+ years old. The pictures do not reflect how bad she really is. She has hair cover that has not shed out over her ribs, you can feel and see each and every one of her ribs and her spine sticks up at least three inches if not more, from being so emaciated. She also has several wounds that are pretty bad, one on her jaw looks as if it should have had stitches, it is clear down to the bone. I am cleaning it and dressing it daily (which if I may add that she stands perfectly still for). Her feet are terrible and cripling her, she walks with this terrible sway of her hip due to the fact that her feet are so grown out.
The farrier was out today, (Saturday) and he says she has missed at least 4 cycles, which is about a year. You can imagine how bad her feet are.... when we picked her up to bring her to her new home, she could barely stand or walk due to the lack of balance and was lame from her feet being so overgrown. I am glad to say that our farrier worked wonders on her and she is happy as all get out to have a new pedicure with new shoes!! When her feet were finished we put her in her turn-out and she pranced out with all her Arab glory and ran along side the fence to show off to Buddy and Tuff(our other horses). It is truly beautiful to see what hay, good feet and a bath will do for a horse that is as neglected as she was. I am glad to see that she is getting her spunk back. As we go I will update pictures and information on her.
Watch for us in the Press Enterprise, a reporter called and wants to do an article on her and her adoption. To us it is really her glory, she chose us. We were visiting the shelter and we saw her, out of sympathy we brought back carrots and her eyes told a greater story about who she once was. She loved our kids the momment she saw them and made it known with the love in her eyes. I knew right then that she would be coming home with us, even if only for a short time, we want her days to be full of joy and fulness, the way our lives are full due to the love we have from Jesus Christ; the One who loved and loves us when we were'nt so beautiful to look at.
UPDATE: pictures taken 08/2009. Kisses putting on weight..slowly.
